1. developing and implementing policies and procedures relating to postgraduate research degree programmes and the quality assurance of such programmes;
2. providing advice on and administering the process of the recruitment, admission, enrolment, progress monitoring and examination of research students;
3. liaising with external funders of research in relation to postgraduate funding
4. providing advice on, and processing applications to, funding sources for research students;
5. administering finance relating to research student scholarships;
6. collecting and analyzing data relating to research student numbers and progress;
7. making statutory and other periodic data returns to HEFCE, DEL, RCUK and a variety of research funders; and
8. servicing committees that deal with postgraduate research
